Downtown

Downtown is the hub of San Francisco’s many financial institutions. Situated in the northwest sector of the City, it is bookend by SOMA to the south and North Beach to the north, with terrific views of the San Francisco Bay, Bay Bridge, Treasure Island, and the East Bay. Downtown offers more than just highrises, including the famous Transamerica Pyramid building. It adjoins San Francisco’s historical Chinatown. Shopping is abundant from Union Square – one of the nation’s largest shopping districts – Embarcadero Center and the Ferry Building – arguably home to San Francisco’s best farmers’ market. Ferry terminals along the Bay provide access to the East Bay and Marin County, Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) connects San Francisco to the Peninsula and the outer reaches of the East Bay, and iconic cable cars can be seen climbing the hills.
